Welcome to the Anthropocene

It’s getting hotter, stormier, and drought-ier out here in Virginia. We think traditional European grape varieties are too input-intensive and fragile to continue to be viable. We focus largely on hybrid grape varieties that are delicious and also hold promise in our changing climate.

Small batch & expressive

Our wines are small batch and emphasize the use ambient or wild yeasts and minimal-to-no-sulfur. We use winemaking techniques that aim to emphasize and enhance a particular grape variety’s natural characteristics and tell the story of the wine’s distinct vintage.

Place-driven

All the grapes in Quartzwood wines are sourced from within a 10 mile radius of our home in Lovettsville, Virginia, in the Catoctin highlands of western Loudoun County. The vineyards have either been planted or managed by Ben, or are growers we know and with whom we work closely.
